HOW-TO: LiveND, 14 stops DR, ISO 25 RAW on any Olympus camera Manual focus tele lens techniques with m4/3 for birds and BIF's To be able to display the GH4 HDMI output you need some device to grab the information from the GH4 and software to display the captured information on your laptop display. What you must understand is that the HDMI socket on your laptop is output only, the HDMI socket on the GH4 is also output. But that will not allow you display the recording on our laptop screen. If you reread my last post you'll see I'm asking if the camera will output 1080p out its hdmi while recording at 4K.Īccording to the advanced documentation the camera can be configured to 1080p output while recording 4K. I just want the camera to be recording at 4K, and the laptop screen to be viewing it live at 1080p. No, I don't want to capture anything on he laptop. I'd settle for 1080p for now unless you really need that 4k. I think there's a couple models that have realtime hardware encoders too now but that's way above the price ranges we're talking about. You'd be barely able to store it in realtime with a good pc, let alone re-encode it and stream it or whatever you wanna do with it. We're talking terrabytes of data, requirement for really fast SSDs and so forth. These adapters are simply passing through the signal. Does that work well, or is it a gimmick?Ĭapturing 4k is not for the feint of heart. Or, has anyone used one of those special video viewfinders which you look through onto the camera LCD to get a magnified view to your eyes? Zacuto makes them, and there are cheaper generic brands too. I was just wondering if my laptop could do it somehow, so I could preview the video in full HD quality. However the live view feed on the iPad is only about twice the dimensions of the camera screen. I have got the Panasonic app working on an iPad, so I can get not only live video feed, but also full remote control on there. I assume there are hardware solutions with their own screens that can do it, but I don't really want to buy a special device for monitoring the video, since I assume anything decent will be expensive. Has anyone got this working successfully to a standard laptop using any method that doesn't cost significant money? I haven't tried any of the Panasonic software, but I was surprised to find on their web site there was a whole suite of them, each doing different things. I looked up tethering and it seems there is a company who has made a custom solution, with cable and software, but it costs $300+. That leaves, I assume, the possibilities of doing it via tethering into a USB port, or over Wifi. If the laptop had an HDMI-in port, I assume it would be trivial, but very few laptops have those, and mine doesn't. Hi, I was wondering if there was any way to use a laptop to get live view of my GX8's video. ![]()
